Festival and event season is kicking off – and maybe this is the first time you’re going to be attending an indoor Witch or Pagan event. Or maybe it’s been a hot minute or 5 years since you last attended one. What should you know about the do’s and don’ts so that you have a good time?

Well, I’ve compiled an event tip list for some key things to keep in mind so that you (and other attendees) have a good time.

Here’s my (somewhat) entertaining video if you have some time to watch or just listen. Look below for a handy-dandy list!

The To-Do List:

Check the program in advance and read it thoroughly so you’re familiar with what’s being offered.
Download the sched app to your phone so you can easily reference the program. Many events have gone paperless and/or use the schedule to reserve seating in events that have limited space.
Look at the food options onsite and just outside of the hotel. What grocery stores and restaurants are close? Can you walk there? Is it a drive?
Pack snacks, especially if you’re on a budget. Check to see if there’s a microwave and/or fridge in your room.
Make note of the hours of registration, the vendor room, and opening/closing events.
Wear your badge and make sure the name you wish to use is clear. Make use of pronoun stickers or ribbons, as well as proximity/permission labels/stickers.
Feel free to dress fabulously, but also keep comfort in mind. Hotel and convention spaces are notoriously hard on the body, so layers and comfy shoes are a must.
Look for special events that cater to newbies (speed-friendly, newcomers welcome, etc) and be sure to attend if you’re new.
Pace yourself, you won’t be able to do all the things, so prioritize the things that are most important for you to attend and set alarms.
Remember to sleep, eat, hydrate, and hygiene.
The Don’t List:

Don’t forget to check the program for events that may require special clothing, a materials fee, or other special requirement
Don’t interrupt presenters/performers with interjections and comments unless asked or acknowledged. Save your questions for question time.
Don’t block other people’s views or accessibility
Don’t photograph or videotape ANYONE without their explicit permission
Don’t violate convention rules about media, consent, and other safety measures
Don’t attend if you’ve got a contagious bug (cold, flu, covid, pink eye, etc)
Don’t be afraid to try new things and step outside your comfort zone.

HAVE FUN!!
