Jul

Júl was a liminal time, neither fully ending nor fully beginning, when the boundaries between the living, the dead, and the divine weakened. Ancestors were thought to draw near, spirits to wander more freely, and gods to move among humans unseen. Fires were kept burning not only for warmth, but as beacons—both to guide benevolent spirits home and to ward off those that carried chaos or ill intent. The howling winter wind was not empty sound; it carried voices, omens, and warnings. During Júl, offerings were made, doors were marked, and households observed old customs with care, knowing that what crossed the threshold in those nights could bless or curse the coming year.
