You can use crystals to help shield. I often place one between myself, and my laptop when dealing with certain people. Also carrying something like raw Rubies,Carnelians, etc.,close to your heart, or alternatively your root chakra to help protect your energy from those who either intentionally, or unintentionally drain you.

Yes energy absorption is real thing vampires do it all the time
as do non-vampyres. Energy has no boundries, so it can happen a lot on the internet. I use mirror sheilds.
